Dive Training Council Background

The Dive Training Council (DTC) is a registered incorporated society.

From February 1998 to November 2003 it was an ITO and administered the sub-field of diving on the NZQA National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

The diving sub field has five domains: General, Recreational, Instruction, Occupational & Scientific. There are a total of 91 unit standards at levels 2 – 7.

From March 2004 the administration of the entire diving sub-field was formally assumed by the Sports, Recreation & Fitness ITO (SFRITO) now Skills Active ITO.

The Dive Training Council (DTC) is the expert advisory group to Skills Active ITO for the subject of dive across all five domains. The DTC executive still represents a variety of dive sectors including: accredited dive providers, construction, construction training, the media, the military & other government services, recreation, dive retail & wholesale and science.

It is important to note that although Skills Active is our “dive” ITO it clearly is aware of its responsibility to represent all dive industry aspects – not just recreation.  DTC will play a pivotal role in ensuring broad industry coverage.

2012 is a year continuing the Governments Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ). The DTC is presently working with Skills Active to manage the review of tertiary dive qualifications. Alongside this is a current review of the diving unit standards. Updates on these will be presented at the AGM.

This AGM gives you the opportunity to participate in this important process.

Hope to see you there.
